St Abbs Head

How to get there:

A 20 minute (10 miles) drive through Stenton and Garvald and then towards Johnscleugh. Turn left on a track just after you have gone under a set of power lines and park the car.

The Walk

A walk along Whiteadder water and back over Spartleton hill where we will cross to Crichness Law and via Crystal Rig to Friardykes. Then along the gravel road back to the car.

Cross the river on the other side of the fence. Follow the river until the start of Whiteadder reservoir and turn left on a track towards Gamelshiel castle. 100 mtrs before the castle climb the hill on your right towards the fence and gate. Pass through the gate and follow the fence to your left up the hill. Keep walking a straight line and at the top of the ridge skirt round towards the cairn at the top of the hill.
At the cairn walk towards in a ESE direction until to the road below. Cross the river and follow the track throgh a gate immediately left up the hill. Follow the track along the hill side until it merges with a gravel road leading to Friardykes. Follow the gravel road SW under the powerlines back to the car.
